Campus Christmas and Ice Skating in Chucks

Monday, December 30th, 2013

We at Cedarville hope that you and your loved ones had a wonderful Christmas celebration this year! Every Cedarville grad has fond memories of Campus Christmas, and the event seems to get bigger and better each year! Watch the Student Center turn into a Christmas Wonderland thanks to SCAB!

To keep you connected, we’ve shared some photos and videos of this year’s Campus Christmas celebration, complete with a performance from Denver And The Mile High Orchestra, ornament decorating, a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, and breakfast in the dining hall with an iceless ice skating rink upstairs! Yes, you read that correctly – ice skating in Chucks!

It was a beautiful time here at the University, and we hope that you will share some of your family Christmas photos in the comments below!

To see more photos visit the Facebook pages of both SCAB (Student Center Activities Board) and Cedarville University Alumni Association.

From all of us in the Alumni Office and DAE, we hope you had Merry Christmas and a enjoy a very happy New Year!

Get To Know A DAE Member: Rachel Collins

Monday, December 23rd, 2013

Delta Alpha Epsilon (DAE) is a student service organization dedicated to serving Cedarville University’s alumni. DAE assists the Alumni Association with chapter and regional events, Homecoming, and various other needs around the Alumni Relations Office. Students must reapply each spring to be a member of this highly selective organization.

My name is Rachel Collins; I am a junior Strategic Communication major with minors in Public Relations and Bible. I am from Bellbrook, OH but was raised wherever the Air Force sent my family.

This past year, I have had the the opportunity of being a part of Delta Alpha Epsilon (DAE), a small organization of junior and senior students whose job is to assist the Alumni Relations office at Cedarville by keeping alumni connected with Cedarville. DAE has been one of my favorite experiences while at Cedarville. Through it I have made lifelong friends, traveled to several different states, and gained experiences and skills that I can take with me beyond Cedarville. (more…)

An Evening With Dr. Thomas White

Today’s post was provided by Ramsey McRory ’15, who serves on Delta Alpha Epsilon and contributes regularly to the Chapter Leadership Blog. Ramsey is a junior Nursing major from Haymarket, Virginia.

In November, the Alumni Association held an event in Canton, Ohio.  An Evening With Dr. Thomas White was a night for alumni and prospective Cedarville students to enjoy a meal together, fellowship, and hear directly from the 10th president of Cedarville University, Dr. Thomas White.

Canton, OH

As always, we had a wonderful group of alumni from the Ohio area, t-shirt giveaways, and information about what is currently happening with Cedarville students and the University as a whole.  This event was special, though, as attendees had an opportunity to hear from Dr. White about his passion for the Gospel and the love he has for his family. Year-End Giving: Investing in Future Chapter Members

Monday, December 9th, 2013

Today’s guest post comes from Jason Holmes. Jason is currently a Second Year student in the Pharmacy Graduate Program at Cedarville University. He serves as a student worker in the Alumni Relations Office and a student caller at Phonathon.

December is here, and many families are trying to make decisions about year-end giving.  However, the buzz words fundraising and giving can bring a sense of anxiety, unease or annoyance to many a person’s ears.  It might be natural to assume that the resources given are directed towards the organization.  In reality, the donations are being given to individuals, with actual stories and tangible needs.  A gift is a blessing to people.

I have personally been blessed through each avenue of giving at Cedarville.  I received a very generous scholarship from the University, which enabled me to attend and greatly alleviated the financial burden on my family and me.

Serving with Events

For many of us, the Christmas season provides a time to connect with the people we love, as well as give to those who can’t share the same heart-warming festivities we can. So how can Cedarville alumni enjoy their friendships and family, while also helping others?  A service-themed alumni event!  Consider making the Christmas spirit last all year by planning a chapter event that revolves around serving together.

For example, the students on DAE, Cedarville’s alumni service organization, are packing items this year for Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Last month, the South Central Pennsylvania alumni chapter hosted a service event at GAiN to pack aid boxes for shipment overseas! Just as Cedarville students prioritize ministry involvement during their time at Cedarville, our alumni also have that desire to serve their communities. So pick an organization or family to sponsor, grab your alum friends, and spread the love of Christ this Christmas season… and all year-round!

Let us know about the ways you have chosen to enjoy giving this year! If you have ideas for service-themed events in your region, we’d love to hear about them.
