Africa’s Longest Running War…

November 13th, 2009

Man! This week has had 2 huge tests for me! Its weird because my semester schedules are lined up this time so that once one test hits, they all hit. This week has been good though, just trying to enjoy life and been focusing alot on resting in God and realizing that I can’t figure anything out. The beauty is I don’t have to, He already knows: ).

Last night was really a great night because the Invisible Children organization came to campus and showed “The Rescue”. It is a documentary about Africa’s longest war which began in Uganda and has spread to the Congo and Sudan. A man named Joseph Kony is in charge of a group of rebels called the Lord’s Resistance Army who, in the beginning, were fighting the government for power. Eventually though, it became clear Kony could not overthrow the government and many soldiers defected. Facing a lack of troops and potential failure, Kony turned to terrorizing the country, killing at random, and kidnapping children and forcing them to become child soldiers in his army. Invisible Children was started by 3 guys who went to the Sudan to make a documentary about the Darfur genocide refugees. While there, though, they stumbled across this child soldier story and have been empassioned to share with the world the attrocities of Joseph Kony ever since. They have raised millions of dollars and have successfully lobbied the US State Department to appoint a senior level diplomat to this Ugandan conflict. They got so far in peace talks that the only thing needed for a ceasefire was for Kony to emerge from the bush and sign the documents, but he failed to show. Now, wanted by the International Criminal Court, Kony is being sought after for arrest to be tried in Holland, at ICC HQ, for crimes against humanity. Invisible Children is now lobbying Congress to pass the Invisible Children Bill which would require President Obama to find a way to arrest Kony and bring him to trial. Needless to say, this is a huuuuge deal and most people don’t even know about it. Please consider what you can do to get involved whether it be spreading the word, donating money, or signing petitions to send to President Obama. There are 3,000 child soldiers that need a RESCUE, you can help bring them home.

The 2009 World Series…

November 6th, 2009

WOW!!! Sorry about how long it has been! Life has just been super crazy and really busy as of late. This is college after all and boy do I feel it! Tons of homework, meetings, tests etc. And to pile on top of that LifeLine, my touring team, has been out the past 2 weekends and will be again this weekend! We were in Michigan and the Indiana and next is West Virginia! Traveling with them is soooo much fun and I really enjoy it! We get meet people with awesome ministries in the churches that we visit and the host homes we stay in! It is just so great to connect through the ministry of drama with people in all stages and walks of life! What a blessing! We have ridden four-wheelers, run out of gas, had bonfires, and met some very interesting people in our journeys so far and it makes me very excited for future tours to come!

On another note…my favorite sports team of all time…The Yankees have won their 27th World Series Championship. This week has been…well, an interesting week for me. Yesterday was a really tough day, but as I watched Robinson Cano throw to Mark Teixera for the final out and the title, I was reminded of how much God cares for us. He knew that I needed that win. He knew the joy that it would bring to me to see my team, the one I have loved all my life win that championship. The game was something that was encouraging to me, the bright spot I neeeded in my day. See, the game became more than just a game, it became His promise to me. It showed that when its hard He is there to help us. He is there to pick us right back up, to give us hope and joy. He is the source of pure joy, but He uses all manner of things to help us in our walk. God cares in the little ways as He gradually is making us more and more into His image. The next time something, no matter how big or how little, ministers and encourages you remember…He’s watching and every little thing and every big thing has a purpose in His master plan. : ) Go Yankees!!!

MuteMath “Armistice”

October 27th, 2009

screen-captureWell, as promised, here is my take on MuteMath. This band was formed about 5 yrs. ago by the remnants of a band called EarthSuit. They are based out of New Orleans, LA and have one of the sweetest sounds I have ever heard in a band! They are a unique mix of electronic, rock, alternative genres. To see them in person helps one to truly appreciate the amazing musicianship of these guys. They are soo talented! Each member can not only masterfully play his own instrument but also is proficient in every other instrument on stage and they use that in every show they play. To see MuteMath is to watch musical genius at work. Watch the clip off of their live DVD below to begin to understand!

The latest album “Armistice” is a solid album that just further elaborates on what can only be described as brilliant. Sounds on the album are totally unique and extremely catchy. Paul Meaney’s lyrics portray the almost self-destructive effort it took for this band to create this album. The songs “Electrify” and “Backfire” are my favorite off this album. Check them out please! WHY?? BECAUSE OF EVERY BAND THEY ARE MY FAVORITE ONE!!! hahaha
