God’s Social Hierarchy

Fire in the sky
HeartSong spent Sunday at two awesome churches in Arkansas. They were both so welcoming and gracious. All eight of us stayed with one host family out in the country Sunday night. We set off fireworks with them and had a blast – literally. I even got hit in the head with one! (Don’t worry, Mom, I’m fine.)
Now we’re back in with another week at LiFT. This week we are on the campus of John Brown University. Camp is crazy and fun, but the coolest part by far is watching God work in the lives of the campers. During the invitation last night, I watched kids stream down the aisles to start a relationship with God. I was struck by how different they all are. And how God loves them all the same. His invitation of love is not limited to the pretty or the popular. He calls to everyone. The boy with skinny jeans and long, emo hair, the girl in a cutoff t-shirt and basketball shorts, the jock and the cheerleader, the band geek and the math nerd. There is no social hierarchy in the mind of God. He loves everyone equally and desires each of our lives equally. He can use anyone in any way for His glory. So who are we to pick and chose who to reach out to? I pray that Heartsong will always be a ministry that looks beyond stereotypes and loves people the way God does – equally and without judgement.
