An update from the Southeast!

We’re driving in the van as Cali is screaming, “Eat Quizno’s subs!!” at the top of her lungs for some reason. We usually don’t try to figure out why Cali does the things she does, it would be a waste of time! Right now we’re on the way to Santee, South Carolina. The past couple days we have been in Burgaw, North Carolina, where one pastor told us, “It’s halfway between ‘deer crossing’ and ‘resume speed.’”
We were involved in a July 4th celebration at Antioch church in Lincolnton, North Carolina. We arrived the evening before to a cute church in the country. Over the dinner they provided us, we met Pastor Norman and Fred, the music minster. Their vision for the event was that it would bring in people from the community for the concert, barbeque, and fireworks, and possibly be able to bring in more people to the church. We were very privileged to be able to be a part of the outreach event, and God really blessed their efforts. The sanctuary was filled as several hundred people who came out for the celebration.

We have also had some time to relax the past few days. Earlier in the same afternoon we spent a couple hours at Pastor Norman’s house on the lake. It was great to have some time to just hang around in the sun and swim in the water as a team. Despite being near the ocean quite a bit, we haven’t had a lot of time to spend at the beach, so it was a welcome break. I certainly can’t complain, though! After all, one guy did take me flying in his Moony over Hilton Head and the other islands nearby. Being on tour is such an incredible experience!

We’ve also had the pleasure of changing tires in the hot southeastern sun! We are truly blessed to only have a had a flat tire here and there. Continue to pray for our safety as we have only 4 weeks left on tour…wow, where has the time gone.

What a guy!

In case you were wondering, we didn’t stop at Quizno’s like Cali wanted. We went to Arby’s : )

Time of Worship

Time of Worship

We just spent four days at Youth Haven Bible Camp with Mamre Baptist Church from the Kitts Hill/Ironton area of Ohio. We were actually at Mamre Baptist in October for our fall break tour, so it was such a neat opportunity to reconnect with the people as well as make some new friends. We got the chance to play music, games (like capture the flag!), be challenged by God’s Word through preaching, and eat some awesome food! Mamre has some very talented cooks!
It was so good to see Pastor Jeff and Beth Davenport and their family again, as well as Pastor John Paul and Pastor Ryan from the church. We will be praying specifically for them all as their church is making a transition in leadership and as Pastor Davenport and his family are in the process of moving to a new town and a new church family in Covington, KY. HeartSong Orange, we found out that you guys will be at their new church in Covington, so take good care of them for us!
The Spirit of God made Himself so evident during camp—we rejoice along with the church as some campers came to know Jesus personally and as other students decided that they were going to change lifestyle patterns and to become more faithful in their own relationship with God as they go home for the summer. A good number of the campers shared testimonies that it had been very hard to be consistent in their relationship with God at home, at school, and at church—but the neat thing was that they committed to stand together and stay accountable with each other. Looking back on our own experiences in junior high and high school, we can completely relate to how being faithful in following Christ could be hard at times, and so our team will continue to pray for all of the campers and the staff as we travel this summer!
Mamre—we love you all! You have been such an encouragement to us. Thank you for serving us and for loving us…we will miss you guys and hope to see you all again soon! More to come later…

Today we were in the wonderful town of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, at Sand Springs Baptist Church. We knew that we were holding a youth event but we had no idea the excitement that was to come. After meeting Steve Coulter, the interim youth pastor, we ate a quick lunch and prepared ourselves for the fun. Around one o’clock kids started pouring in for fun games like amoeba, dodge ball, and some pretty serious rounds of spoons. After eating some awesome barbeque, thanks to John, we had a great time of worship with the teens and even hung out afterwards for some ping pong and foosball. The youth group is currently looking for a new youth pastor so we will be praying for them in this time of transition as well.
