October 6 Update: State of the University, Defining “Close Contact,” and iCare Notes for Students

October 6, 2020 |

Let your steadfast love, O Lord, be upon us, even as we hope in you. (Psalm 33:22)

We have reached the halfway point of the semester, and fall has definitely come to Cedarville. We’re enjoying cooler, sunny days and the beautiful changing colors of the leaves on campus. We are reminded that the One who controls the seasons is lovingly holding us in His hands.

This week’s update includes:

  • State of the University address, which included an exciting announcement
  • Global Outreach spring and summer trips
  • Sending encouragement to students
  • Watching the fall play on demand from home
  • Defining “close contact” when contact tracing COVID cases
  • Revised spring invoice/payment schedule
  • New location for SSC Grab+Go

We begin this morning’s update with a correction to information we shared yesterday. You may have read a notification from the Canvas learning management system about masks in the Library. Please note that masks will continue to be required in the Library, even when physically distanced, in compliance with the state of Ohio’s current mask mandate. We apologize for the confusion!

State of the University Address – If you missed Dr. White’s State of the University chapel last Friday, you can watch it now. You’ll be blessed as you witness us celebrate God’s faithfulness to Cedarville this year and rejoice together at the announcement of  a $12 million transformational gift to the University.

UPDATED AND CORRECTED: Spring and Summer Global Outreach – With the change to the spring semester schedule, there will be no spring break Global Outreach trips. However, we are continuing to review possibilities for both domestic and international GO trips that could take place during summer 2021. We will make a final determination at a later date. During this time of waiting on future travel and ministry opportunities, please take time to pray for the nations in the new campus prayer room, which is located just off the DMC lobby/Alumni Hall.

Caring Well Encouragement – We have enjoyed reading and distributing the many encouraging notes that have come in for our quarantined or isolated students. If you want to send a note, complete the iCare Encouragement Note form, and we’ll take care of the rest! Please keep your note general (not addressed to a particular student), as these will go to all students currently in quarantine or isolation.

Enjoy the Fall Play From Home – The fall play, All My Sons, will conclude this weekend. Showtimes are:

  • Friday, Oct. 9 – 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 10 – 2 p.m. & 7:30 p.m. (online streaming option available)
  • Sunday, Oct. 11 – 3 p.m. (online streaming option available)

For those unable to attend in person, you may purchase the on-demand streaming option for $30 for Saturday’s and Sunday’s performances and enjoy the play for up to 24 hours from purchase. For the cost of two adult tickets, your whole family can watch the show from the comfort and safety of your home. Contact the box office at 937-766-7787 with questions or to purchase tickets to see the show in person.

Concerning COVID – We’re continuing our Concerning COVID series, where senior nursing students, as part of their NSG-4000 Care of Populations course, investigate your COVID-related questions each week, researching each question and providing evidence-based answers.

Concerning COVID

Here’s this week’s question: For contact tracing, why do we define “close contacts” as anyone who has been within 6 feet for at least 15 minutes within two days before the person developed symptoms? Find Answer

Revised Spring Invoice/Payment Schedule – With the adjusted spring calendar, we have revised the invoicing and payment date schedule as follows:

  • December 10 – Spring semester invoices sent out
  • January 11 – First payment due
  • February 10 – Second payment due
  • March 10 – Third payment due
  • April 9 – Final payment due

SSC Grab+Go Location Change – The Grab+Go in the SSC  has been moved back to the dining hall. Please use the right-hand scanner (if you’re facing the cashier) for Grab+Go scans only. Scan, get your lunch, and then exit the dining hall, all while staying socially distant from others. Use the left side if you are eating in the dining hall, picking up a dining hall to-go meal, or purchasing a Grab+Go meal.

Recently, the water fountains in the Hill have been turned off. In order to get water, I now have the choice of walking to a different building or filling my bottle from the shower. Would you consider putting a bottle filler in the Hill please?

We are checking on this. Thank you for the question.

We received confirmation that Maintenance will be addressing this concern for The Hill. We don’t have a timeline, but we wanted you to know that this is in the works! Thanks for making us aware.

Our family loves to attend plays at Cedarville. We are thrilled that the fall play will be offered via livestream and hope that future plays (even once in person attendance is possible) will be streamed. What a wonderful opportunity for people who are unable to make the trip!
