Academic Calendar Updates:
All Students, Academic Calendar – After carefully reviewing information from the state of Ohio, the CDC, and various educational organizations, we have nearly finalized the fall academic calendar. Like many other institutions — including Ohio State and Notre Dame — we will, for this year only, end fall semester at Thanksgiving. Out of an abundance of caution, this change will allow students to be home from late November to January 5, when some experts believe a resurgence of COVID-19 cases could be possible.
In order to ensure that students are still getting the same number of instruction hours, we will begin classes on Monday, August 17; we will not take Labor Day off or a fall break. Getting Started will begin Friday, August 14, although we are working on changes in the weekend arrival schedule, especially for returning students. The last day for most courses will be Tuesday, November 24.
The revised fall calendar will have some “exceptions” that are still being finalized. Online assignments may be added to some syllabi. Courses with clinical or field experiences as well as undergraduate online courses may require completion after Thanksgiving. Students enrolled at the International Center for Creativity in the Industrial and Innovative Design program will complete their semester on December 10.
Pharm.D. students in their P1-P3 years will need to complete fall semester courses and/or exams online November 30-December 4. There will be no change to the P4 calendar.
M.Div. and residential M.Min. students will follow the undergraduate schedule, while our online master’s programs will continue with two seven-week terms and no change to their start or end dates.
Residential College Now students will follow the updated undergraduate calendar, but there will be no change to the fall online course schedule.
Although the fall semester will look a little different this year, be assured that actual class time and days on campus will be very similar to our normal schedule. In addition, we hope this change will help students financially since travel costs will be reduced.
For some, this news may be disappointing as you consider what will be missed during the weeks we usually enjoy together in December. Not to fear — we are working to ensure that some of our favorite campus Christmas traditions find their way into November. For your planning, note that students will be able to leave their belongings in the residence halls during the extended break, as normal. For this year, any Flex Dollars or Dining Dollars (“Chuck’s Bucks”) that are left over after fall semester will also be allowed to carry over to spring.
