Visitors come to my office on a regular basis. I love that. I love having a moment to allow them a chance to see the “stuff”. Books, letters, cards, pictures of family, etc. Every once in a while the “stuff” opens a great window of connection. This week, a student from California was visiting the campus for the first time. She was having a good day and stopped by my office. I was prepared to show off the “stuff”, but something caught her eye and jumped off the shelf. A book, she exclaimed “Wait! That’s John Perkins! I know Him! We did a Bible study together!” What? That is not possible. I mean everyone should know Dr. John Perkins, but he’s a very humble man, few people do. I love using his stories and examples (the 3 R’s- Relocation, Redistribution and Reconciliation) could she be telling the truth? I was about to ask her if she was sure she had the right John Perkins, but she beat me to the punch “I went on a missions trip to the south and we learned so much! We dug weeds, experienced the heat, and one morning, Dr. Perkins sat down and shared a devotional time with us!” WOOOOOOOOOOW! That is so great! The book on my shelf (Let Justice Roll Down) was required reading for the team before they went on their trip! Don’t get me wrong, I like students, but now I REALLY like this student! She hung out with JP!
So glad Cara will be “hanging out” on the campus of Cedarville University in the fall!
