When I was accepted at Cedarville, then “college,” I had nothing to my name … but faith! No idea how I would finance or pay for my college education. I wanted to be trained to serve the Lord, and I believed that this training should happen at Cedarville. I was scared, but I received much encouragement. My mother, Len, encouraged me. My pastor, John Goodhart, encouraged me. My friend, Doug Gray, encouraged me. My sister, Grace, encouraged me, and my wife and best friend, Gina, stood by me and encouraged me. I am grateful for their help. The students in this picture broke my heart. They were in the middle of final exams, exhausted and ready for spring break. Yet, like those who encouraged me years before, they took the time to encouraged others! They called future students and reminded them of deadlines, shared stories of hope, and even prayed with some of them. It reminded me of the many people in my life who have lifted me up when I needed it. May Lord strengthen students trying to decide their next steps. And may the Lord strengthen the encouragers helping them along the way.
