Super September Showcase | Digital Commons

September 25, 2015

Our Super September Showcase concludes with a look at Digital Commons. We asked Greg Martin, Digital Commons Director, to tell us more…

Give us a brief description of the Digital Commons…

The Digital Commons is Cedarville’s “institutional repository”. It’s the online digital archive of the scholarship, creative activity, and historical record of the faculty, staff, and students of the university, and represents the institution’s commitment to the preservation, organization, open access, and dissemination of these resources.

What is one resource in the Digital Commons that you think all students would benefit from?

This is a really tough question, because there are so many things in the Digital Commons that students would find useful. Here are just a few examples:

Tell us about some unique items that are available to look at?

Since the Digital Commons is “open access”, anybody can look at anything in the repository. There are many things in the Digital Commons that you won’t find anywhere else. For example, we have an archive of athletics memorabilia, pictures of all our sports teams (including football!) since the founding of the university, videos from special events, lots of interesting things from the university archives, and we even publish six electronic journals.

What do you enjoy most about working in the Digital Commons?

I enjoy the wide variety of material that we get to work with – everything from faculty and student publications and faculty and student conference presentations, to the historical items in the Archives, to all the university publications, and much, much more!
