As you consider coming to Cedarville, you may be wondering what there is to do during your free time. When I was considering coming to Cedarville, I was surprised that there were so many fun activities and cute towns to see around Cedarville. And while my window in my residence hall overlooks a real cornfield, there is more to Cedarville than just corn. Here’s a couple of ideas for how to spend your downtime:

  • Have a lazy day!

If we’re being honest, college is crazy and hectic and stressful. Taking a day off to nap, watch a movie, stay in your PJs, and eat junk food is often the break that we need. Especially this past year with no fall or spring break due to COVID, having a day to just chill and rest is much needed. Take this time to maybe catch up on your favorite TV show or watch a great new movie. If you need some “good” junk food (because what lazy day is complete without it?), I highly recommend checking out DG (Dollar General) or The Rip (Shell Gas Station) for some yummy snacks.

  • Explore fun sights around you!

Yellow Springs, Dayton, and Beavercreek are all within a 30 minute-drive and offer so many fun activities. There are malls that have really fun shops, great restaurants, movie theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, and roller skating rinks. Beavercreek, Yellow Springs, and other neighboring little towns have a lot to offer. If you enjoy coffee Pettibone in Riverside just opened up a few weeks ago and serves a delicious iced latte. There are also places like Graeter’s and Bill’s Donuts that serve amazing ice cream and pastries.

  • Spring Cleaning:

We all know that changing our sheets or vacuuming our floors oftentimes gets moved to the bottom of the “To-Do” list. And even though spring cleaning may not sound too fun, it can be a great way to feel productive during your downtime. Plus, catching up on laundry, grocery runs, or vacuuming now means that you don’t have to worry about piles and piles of laundry on room-check day.

  • Have fun with friends or plan a day trip:

Kings Island and Columbus are both just an hour away and have so many fun things to do with friends. Kings Island is an amazing amusement park with really fun rides and attractions and is perfect for an outing with the friend or bro-sis group. Columbus is only an hour away and hosts the Columbus Zoo, botanical gardens, huge malls, and unique restaurants. It’s easy to make either of these places a day trip with friends.

  • Spend time with your hobbies:

So often we can get in the pattern of doing school, activities, meetings, or hanging out with friends. And while all of those are worthwhile pursuits, making time for personal hobbies and interests can help alleviate stress. Whatever your hobby, whether you paint, play an instrument, write, or draw, take time out of your week to pursue those passions. Cedarville has orgs on campus, like the photography or equestrian riding org, that can also help encourage you to pursue your hobbies.

As you can see, there are a lot of really fun things to do in your spare time around here! Ohio has so much more to offer than just these few things but these are some of my favorite things to do. So when you get a spare minute, head over to a new coffee shop or go on a fun road trip. Enjoy your free time!
