Hello, Cedarville fam! My name is Lexi Otto, and I have the pleasure of being one of the directors of Getting Started 2022. In just a few short weeks, new students will be loading up their suitcases and packing their cars or catching flights to begin or continue their 1,000 days at Cedarville University. I know that for new students, Getting Started Weekend can be exciting, scary, and even awkward at times. I hope these few tips will be an encouragement to you!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. Don\u2019t over think it!<\/span><\/b> When I came to Cedarville in 2020, I was constantly thinking of every possible scenario of meeting new people and attending difficult classes. I found myself thinking about the things that might or might not happen instead of focusing on the exciting experiences that were ahead of me. Since being at Cedarville, I have met a plethora of fun people that I enjoy pursuing the Lord with and experienced moments in and outside of the classroom that I will cherish forever. Don\u2019t overthink how much you packed or did not pack because if you’re anything like me, you will realize you did not need the 14 pairs of jeans that you \u201cjust had to bring.\u201d Good news! There is a Wal-Mart in Xenia just a short drive away if you forget any essentials like toothpaste or your phone charger.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Reach out!<\/span><\/b> Soon you will be meeting on campus with your Sting groups and connecting with new friends in the residence halls. You don\u2019t have to wait until you arrive on campus to do that. You can find your Sting group on the Events at CU app on the Getting Started 2022 guide! I have found social media to be a great resource to connect with girls in my hall before moving in each year. Sometimes saying just saying \u201cHi, I can’t wait to get to know you soon!\u201d opens the door to an amazing friendship (speaking from experience).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Prepare your heart!<\/span><\/b> Moving away from home and embarking on the new adventure that is college can be a very daunting thing. <\/span>Isaiah 41:10 says, \u201cFear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.\u201d Let this verse be an encouragement to you as you start a new season of life with so many unknowns. As you head into your 1,000 days at Cedarville, the Lord with walk with you with every step you take. Dig into the Word and be consistently in prayer that the Lord would soften your heart to let Him work in and through you during your time at Cedarville.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    As you look forward to the weekend of Getting Started, I want to encourage you to pray for strength, wisdom, and peace for yourself and for your family that you are leaving behind. It will be a new experience for all parents whether it is their first, second, third, or last time dropping their student off at college. So, students, be patient with them and <\/span>don\u2019t forget<\/span><\/b> to hug them goodbye!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
