Hey! I\u2019m Rhoda, and my roommate Hannah and I are both juniors at Cedarville University.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We\u2019ve been doing this whole shared space thing long enough to know what works and what doesn\u2019t. I\u2019m here to share some of our favorite unwritten roomie rules that make living together peaceful and fun!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Whether you\u2019re currently living in a dorm, about to move in, or even looking at your first apartment, take notes! These rules might just save your friendships (and your sleep schedule)!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

1. Ceiling Lights Stay Off<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Nothing kills the dorm room vibe like the harsh overhead lights. Warm lamps only, please! Mood lighting in our room is a must.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

2. Headphones = Do Not Disturb<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If the headphones are on, don\u2019t talk to me. I\u2019m in the zone!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

3. Refill the Water<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Our Brita pitcher is a lifesaver after a gym visit or long walk across campus. If you use it, just remember to refill it for the next roomie!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

4. You can eat my snacks \u2026 but don\u2019t finish them!<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Snacks are for sharing, but we all have our limits. That last chip is NOT up for grabs!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

5. 2 a.m. Conversations >> Outside<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sometimes a late-night phone call just needs to happen, but do it in the hall. Just because you\u2019re whispering doesn\u2019t mean you can\u2019t be heard!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

6. Alarms on Vibrate Only<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This might be controversial for the heavy sleepers out there, but we don\u2019t ever use sound alarms. Let the roomie enjoy her last ten minutes of sleep!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

7. What\u2019s Shared in the Room Stays in the Room<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

This is our safe zone. Need to vent or talk about your day? All important conversations are strictly confidential!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

8. Napping Is a Team Sport<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

If you nap, I\u2019m gonna nap. No explanation needed.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

9. No Morning Conversations<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

We can say \u201cgood morning,\u201d but that\u2019s it. We\u2019re not morning people. Don\u2019t talk to me.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

10. If She Forgets the Trash, I Take Out the Trash<\/strong><\/h5>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Teamwork makes the dream work! We\u2019ve got each other\u2019s backs.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Sharing a dorm room with a roommate in college can be so much fun. All you need is a little trust, cooperation, and respect! Our rules aren\u2019t a contract \u2014 they\u2019re just little methods we use to care for one another well.
