Making new friends in college can be a daunting experience, <\/span>especially for\u00a0freshmen.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0I remember that on my Day 1\u00a0at\u00a0Cedarville, I was scared\u00a0I\u2019d\u00a0spend\u00a0nearly all\u00a0my meals\u00a0<\/span>eating alone<\/span><\/a>. That was thankfully not the case, and while I cannot guarantee a fantastic friendship with everyone you meet, I can give you an idea of\u00a0<\/span>where a few of your friendships may start<\/span><\/a>:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    1. Classes<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      1. God\u2019s will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

        Residence Halls\u00a0and\u00a0Bro\/Sis\u00a0Community<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

        Residence halls are one of the first places you will\u00a0probably make\u00a0friends. Each\u00a0<\/span>hall or unit<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has a bro\/sis \u2014 also known as a brother or sister hall.\u00a0This is where a girls\u2019 hall and a guys\u2019 hall partner up as a way to meet new people.\u00a0A bro\/sis usually gets together for weekly meals and other events as arranged by the\u00a0<\/span>Resident Assistants (RAs)<\/span><\/a>. This can include hikes, scavenger hunts, and the occasional rodeo. Some groups only get together for the first couple of weeks, while others, like my sophomore bro\/sis, hang out\u00a0frequently.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        My\u00a0freshman\u00a0bro\/sis was full of sophomores and juniors.\u00a0The bro\/sis hosted many exciting events, such as hiking,\u00a0<\/span>pick-a-date,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and a Halloween party in a barn. Thanks to my bro\/sis experience in\u00a0freshman\u00a0year, I met a lot of interesting people and had a lot of interesting experiences. However, these\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0my only friends during\u00a0freshman\u00a0year. I got to know other friends during class.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        \nClasses That Build Connection<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

        The\u00a0<\/span>friends we make in our\u00a0classes,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0especially in the first year of university,\u00a0are\u00a0one of the greatest comforts for our educational pursuits.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0great to have others\u00a0to share\u00a0notes with,\u00a0talk to\u00a0about certain lessons, or even just to sit\u00a0with. As you progress through Cedarville,\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0find\u00a0your\u00a0courses\u00a0become more focused on your major, meaning\u00a0you\u2019ll\u00a0often take\u00a0classes\u00a0with the same group of people. After several years, you get to know and love these people very well.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        For instance, Composition, although one of my more challenging courses in my\u00a0freshman\u00a0year, was\u00a0probably my\u00a0favorite course because it introduced me to some of my best friends. \u00a0Merry, Katie, Sophia, Teagan, and\u00a0I,\u00a0met in that class. We\u00a0call\u00a0ourselves\u00a0the \u201cLego Friends\u201d and remain a friend group to this day.<\/span> \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Through my\u00a0bro\/sis\u00a0events and my academic courses,\u00a0I found that Cedarville\u00a0offers plenty of places to make new friends. However, I have also found that friendships can be made\u00a0\u201crandomly\u201d\u00a0through God\u2019s will. Really, sometimes I\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have any other explanation for how these friendships came to be!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        \"\"
        \nUnexpected Friendships\u00a0From\u00a0God<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

        I believe the best friend to illustrate this point is\u00a0probably Sam.\u00a0We met in a course our\u00a0freshman\u00a0year and never said a single word to each other that entire time. He sat on one side of the classroom, and I sat in another. However, when spring came around,\u00a0it seemed we\u00a0suddenly shared every gen-ed course. That was the semester when we really started becoming friends.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Then came our sophomore year. I went from McKinney to Johnson. I was a little nervous about being in a hall where I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0know anyone until I remembered that Sam was in St. Clair Upper Front (Johnson\u2019s brother hall). Sam was the first\u00a0of many,\u00a0many friends I made in that hall. My heart swells every time I think about that school year.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

        Nurturing\u00a0Your Friendships\u00a0Throughout College and Beyond<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

        How do these friendships last?<\/span><\/a>\u00a0My answer is this: with love and effort. I have found that, even if\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0just brunch once a week or a coffee date every other month, people are just as happy to see me as I am to see them.
