Coming to Cedarville without a car?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

When I first started\u00a0planning\u00a0for college, I was afraid of being stuck on campus and not ever having anywhere to go. I was limited to\u00a0the\u00a0University campus and\u00a0the\u00a0Village\u00a0of\u00a0Cedarville, but I still found\u00a0plenty of cool\u00a0areas to explore!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have full confidence that you can\u00a0too,\u00a0especially with\u00a0some ideas!\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0what\u00a0I\u2019ll\u00a0be sharing\u00a0in this post:\u00a0ideas for what\u00a0to do as a college student in Cedarville without\u00a0leaving the Village.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Explore\u00a0Cedarville Community Park<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Now, you may not have been to a park since elementary school. You may see them as playgrounds and walking paths for moms who want to exercise.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Cedarville\u2019s community park\u00a0fits that description, but it is within\u00a0only\u00a0a\u00a0short walking distance from campus, and it offers a really nice escape from the busyness of\u00a0campus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every year, Cedarville sets off fireworks for<\/span>\u00a0Labor Day, and students and families from the community gather to watch in the park.\u00a0We flood\u00a0the baseball diamond, surrounding parking lots, and grassy areas\u00a0to enjoy the festivities together. I have had so much fun over the\u00a0last three years going to watch the fireworks\u00a0and playing\u00a0board games,\u00a0kill ball, and other fun yard games\u00a0with friends beforehand.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Visit\u00a0Cedarville Community\u00a0Library<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Cedarville may be a small\u00a0town, but\u00a0it has\u00a0a cute public library for all ages. Even as a college student\u00a0with access to the Centennial Library, I\u00a0obtained\u00a0a\u00a0public\u00a0library card in case I ever needed to go.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This semester, the library is graci<\/span>ously allowing me to do two separate service projects with classmates in their meeting rooms. These rooms are available\u00a0to\u00a0rent and\u00a0use\u00a0for events if you and your friends ever want to get together to do something for the community. And\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0only about a\u00a010-minute\u00a0walk from campus right down Main Street!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Check\u00a0Out\u00a0Cedarville\u2019s\u00a0Main Street\u00a0Shops<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Speaking of Main Street, there are s<\/span>o many\u00a0fun\u00a0places to explore\u00a0in Cedarville\u00a0that are\u00a0even closer to campus than the library.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The two coffee shops\u00a0on Main Street,\u00a0<\/span>Beans-n-Cream<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Orion\u00a0Coffee and Tea<\/span><\/a>, are the\u00a0most popular\u00a0student gathering places, but other shops,\u00a0such as\u00a0<\/span>Church Street Cookies<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Second Act<\/span><\/a>, a thrift store, are also wonderful spots to check out.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have personally had Church Street Cookies, and they are delicious! Many of my friends have also boasted about\u00a0Second\u00a0Act\u2019s treasures.\u00a0If you are a\u00a0thrifter\u00a0or a cookie connoisseur, you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0need a car to\u00a0enjoy\u00a0these fun Cedarville\u00a0activities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Village of Cedarville also hosts an event called\u00a0<\/span>Sidewalk Saturdays<\/span><\/a> \u2014\u00a0on\u00a0the first Saturday of every\u00a0month,\u00a0it\u00a0welcomes pop-up shops, food, and games onto\u00a0Main Street.\u00a0One of these included some line dancing,\u00a0and\u00a0I definite<\/span>ly suggest checking that out\u00a0when\u00a0you come!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Go for Walks<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Not only does Cedarville\u2019s campus offer beautiful scenery, but the town itself is also\u00a0a great place\u00a0to go walking or hiking. With the\u00a0<\/span>Indian Mound\u00a0Reserve<\/span><\/a> right around the corner and\u00a0plenty of\u00a0neighborhood streets, there is always<\/span>\u00a0somewhere\u00a0new to explore.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There have been many afternoons or evenings where\u00a0I\u2019ve\u00a0wanted to get off campus but\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0know\u00a0where to go. Even just walking\u00a0a few blocks\u00a0down the road, out of sight of the University,\u00a0can get you away from the busyness of campus life\u00a0for a few moments.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I have found all sorts of little treasures while strolling through town, such as the\u00a0nearby\u00a0graveyard\u00a0during the fall. I\u00a0couldn\u2019t\u00a0help but take some pictures because of how pretty it all looked.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

Since I\u2019m from Kentucky, with its rolling green hills and acres of horse farms, learning to live in Ohio\u2019s cornfields was pretty difficult. But there was one afternoon when my roommate and I were out walking on the road, and I<\/span>\u00a0was struck by how pretty the cornfield next to us looked against the sky. I snapped a picture so I could always be reminded of the\u00a0small things. I\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0need a car. We were\u00a0probably only\u00a0a\u00a0three-minute\u00a0walk from campus, but I was still able to enjoy it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Find a\u00a0Friend\u00a0With\u00a0a\u00a0Car<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

With all the fun things to do in town, I think this i<\/span>s\u00a0something\u00a0many students\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0really think about until their later years,\u00a0when they\u00a0have\u00a0a more defined\u00a0friend group: If you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have a car, finding a friend who does has so many amazing\u00a0perks!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

First, you can hitch a ride whenever you want and contribute to\u00a0gas money when needed. And second, it\u00a0opens up\u00a0so many more opportunities to get to know different people and to see the places surrounding Cedarville, like\u00a0<\/span>Young\u2019s\u00a0Jersey\u00a0Dairy<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0the city of\u00a0Beavercreek, or\u00a0<\/span>The Greene<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0with its massive bookstore and Cheesecake Factory! I would recommend visiting those\u00a0two places\u00a0in The Greene\u00a0back-to-back to get the full experience.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

No Car? No Problem!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Not having a car on cam<\/span>pus does not mean you can\u2019t leave. If you reach out to people, Cedarville students are always more than willing to lend a hand driving you to church, Walmart, or anywhere else you might want to go. Yo<\/span>u can\u00a0build\u00a0community\u00a0during those drives to get\u00a0groceries\u00a0or late-night Taco Bell runs, and you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0even need to be the one with the car!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>\"\"<\/p>\n

I hope I have eased some of your c<\/span>oncerns about getting connected and finding things to do in Cedarville. You do not have to stay confined to your dorm just because you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0have a\u00a0vehicle. There is plenty to do outside of campus in the\u00a0Village of\u00a0Cedarville\u00a0throughout the year\u00a0\u2014 you just\u00a0have to\u00a0know where to look!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
