It\u2019s\u00a0Friday night after a long week of exams,\u00a0assignments, and late-night study sessions. As the sun sets\u00a0over campus, you and your friends make the\u00a0walk\u00a0from your dorm to the field,\u00a0discussing\u00a0game plans,\u00a0setting\u00a0the lineup, and\u00a0preparing\u00a0for the\u00a0night\u00a0you\u2019ve\u00a0been looking forward to all week.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Your intramural game has finally arrived, and it has quickly become your favorite night of the week.\u00a0It\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0time to forget about classes,\u00a0compete in\u00a0your favorite sport with friends,\u00a0create lifelong\u00a0memories,\u00a0and glorify God in the process.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the experience I have every time my intramural games roll around. So much so that I count down the days until my next game,\u00a0and I\u00a0participate\u00a0in multiple intramurals at a time.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

These nights have become a time to reset and have fun, allowing me to\u00a0take a\u00a0step back from the\u00a0busyness\u00a0school\u00a0life\u00a0can\u00a0bring.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Break\u00a0From the Academics<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

As a college student, academics\u00a0can be\u00a0challenging, and sometimes a break is much needed.\u00a0Between\u00a0attending chapel, classes, study sessions, group projects, and everything else, it can be nice to have a couple of nights a week to forget about school for an hour or two. This is exactly what intramurals do.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Whether going to watch a friend play or\u00a0playing\u00a0myself, I see intramural games as a time to take a \u201cmental reset\u201d from school. The mixture of physical activity and socialization gives\u00a0a great opportunity\u00a0to relieve some stress from the school week.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After hours of studying for exams and working on projects, stepping onto the field is incredibly refreshing.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Fun\u00a0With Friends<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Another thing I love about intramurals is the friendships that are built and fostered on and off the court.\u00a0Many teams are a combination of friend groups joining together to play the sport they love.\u00a0This\u00a0provides\u00a0great opportunities to meet new people and build new friendships. In addition,\u00a0participating\u00a0in\u00a0sports together\u00a0allows\u00a0for\u00a0even\u00a0more opportunities to grow closer to each other.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of my closest friendships have been built through intramurals. Every season brings about new team traditions, inside jokes, and friendly\u00a0rivalries that never fail to strengthen\u00a0relationships\u00a0and create memories. And even when we lose\u00a0\u2014\u00a0sometimes\u00a0pretty badly\u00a0\u2014\u00a0we still have fun playing the sport we love with great friends.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There is something about spending time with friends while playing the sport you love that creates some of the best moments of the week.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Intramurals also draw spectators into the experience, giving\u00a0you\u00a0opportunities to support friends on the court.\u00a0At\u00a0every\u00a0game, students will\u00a0line\u00a0the sidelines to cheer on their friends and classmates. Some students will even make signs and play music to support the teams.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Intramural nights quickly become\u00a0a great place\u00a0to unwind and socialize\u00a0when you need it the most.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Moments\u00a0Everyone\u00a0Remembers<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Not only do intramurals allow for a time away from class and with friends, but they also make way for some of the most unbelievable moments. These moments are the stories that are talked about semesters later in the hallways at 3\u00a0a.m.\u00a0\u2014 the moments that\u00a0your\u00a0friends reminisce\u00a0over\u00a0and the current players strive to recreate.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The\u00a0memory\u00a0that never fails to give me goosebumps was the\u00a0futsal\u00a0(a smaller, fast-paced indoor version of soccer)\u00a0intramural finals during the spring of 2024. I was rooting for my friends John and Simeon, who were playing against a team called the \u201cDragon Warriors.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The sidelines were lined shoulder to shoulder with spectators, and 90% of them were rooting for the\u00a0Dragon Warriors, who were favored to win it all. The game was close the entire time, going back and forth until the last\u00a0four\u00a0minutes, when the Dragon Warriors went up by one point.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As the clock wound down,\u00a0John and Simeon\u00a0were struggling to get any more scoring opportunities; however, with 15 seconds left, their attacker shot the ball from midfield, just beyond the two-point line. The ball flew between the defenders, going right over the goalie\u2019s head and into the back of the goal, giving their team two points and\u00a0winning the game.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The rowdy fans went dead\u00a0quiet, while my friends and I began screaming with excitement.\u00a0We continue to\u00a0talk about that moment\u00a0to this day. It has quickly become one of my fondest memories of college, and I\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0even on the field.\u00a0All of the intramural futsal players remember it,\u00a0and it is the story the underdog teams try to recreate yearly.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Without fail, intramural nights create some of the greatest memories in college.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

More\u00a0Than\u00a0Just the\u00a0Game<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Although the moments that happen on the field are great, the\u00a0times\u00a0spent with the team outside of the games\u00a0are\u00a0just as good.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Every game night, our team will get dinner together beforehand and hang out. These dinners are always fun\u00a0times to talk\u00a0about strategy, positions, and lineup for the game to come.\u00a0Then, once the game is finished, the team will sometimes head out to Taco Bell\u00a0or Bill\u2019s Donuts\u00a0for a late-night snack, which is the best way to end the night.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Intramural nights are more than just playing sports; they build\u00a0a strong group of friends that branch out beyond the soccer field or basketball court. These friendships strengthen over time, and it is\u00a0not uncommon\u00a0to hang out with\u00a0intramural teammates\u00a0throughout the week.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As these friendships grow, it makes game\u00a0nights\u00a0that\u00a0much more enjoyable. They are not only your intramural team but also your close group of friends. This is a key reason intramural nights are easily some of the greatest nights on campus.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

All to the Glory of God<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

My favorite part about playing intramurals at Cedarville is the faith aspect on the field. Not only are you playing sports with your friends, but you are also playing with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. In doing so, everyone is positive and encouraging on the field,\u00a0representing\u00a0Christ\u2019s love in the way they treat\u00a0one\u00a0another.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As 1 Corinthians 10:31 reminds us, \u201cwhatever you do, do all to the glory of God.\u201d Even something as simple as an intramural game becomes an opportunity to glorify Him.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before the game, all players huddle up and pray, which helps remind us to glorify God in all that we do,\u00a0representing\u00a0Christ and His love throughout the game. It is\u00a0a great time\u00a0to use the gifts God has given us to kindle friendships and community, which is another reason I enjoy intramural nights so much.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Why\u00a0We\u00a0Keep\u00a0Returning<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

You finally step on the court, and all the stress\u00a0built up\u00a0over the past school week is quickly washed away by the adrenaline.\u00a0Once that starting whistle blows, all you can think about is the task at hand. For the next hour, you get to play the sport you love with your closest friends\u00a0\u2014\u00a0new and old\u00a0\u2014\u00a0while classmates and friends cheer you on from the stands.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the highlight of the week. A break from classes, a time to hang out with friends, and an opportunity to make memories that will last years.\u00a0On top of that, it is a time to use God\u2019s gifts to glorify Him while having fun.\u00a0Because of this,\u00a0you\u00a0anticipate\u00a0the next\u00a0intramural\u00a0game\u00a0night\u00a0each week, whether you are playing or cheering on a friend.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Long after the final whistle blows, the friendships, moments, and memories made during intramural nights continue to shape the Cedarville experience.
