Since then, CU Relief has\u00a0sprouted into\u00a0so much more.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I have been going on\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cedarville.edu\/ministries\/global-outreach\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">GO Trips<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> since I came to Cedarville, specifically CU Relief, with no prior mission trip experience. I gave the\u00a0initial\u00a0trip a yes and trusted God through the rest of the uncertainty. I was asked to return for the\u00a0spring\u00a0break GO trip to Asheville, North Carolina, where most of the damage occurred, to lead a team of\u00a0servant-hearted students\u00a0in constructing a community center.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">I accepted the role and its responsibilities and started communicating with Anna, the main correspondent for her community and our point of contact for the CU Relief trip. She wanted a place for the neighborhood to \u201ccome spend time together without having to spend money.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">After a few proposals, the final design\u00a0included\u00a0a fully enclosed market stall\u00a0where\u00a0she could sell the vegetables that her family grew on their farm. With the plans sent and\u00a0finalized, it was now up to our team leaders to organize the pre-trip\u00a0process of\u00a0meeting\u00a0one another and reviewing\u00a0the trip.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This group was full of new faces; many members I served with in the past were on different trips.\u00a0The meeting was great for hearing people\u2019s stories and seeing their willingness to share. That first night, we unloaded and quickly got some rest before the week ahead. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">When we\u00a0woke up,\u00a0we\u00a0headed to the service at a local church, after\u00a0which we were divided into teams and went to our respective job sites. I took a total of\u00a0eight\u00a0team members to Anna\u2019s to begin laying out baseplates, while the other 16 did work for members of the church who were still affected by Helene.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I went over the basics of construction to my team members and had them measure to prepare for the next day. By the time the marks were secured to the ground, it was already dark. We loaded up and headed back for dinner to debrief. We talked about what each respective team did and what we\u2019re hoping to accomplish by the next day, then headed to bed. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The morning came earlier than anyone wanted\u00a0during\u00a0spring break, but everyone got up and came to\u00a0a\u00a0breakfast\u00a0the team at\u00a0Cragmont\u00a0had prepared for us. We sat, ate, read a planned devotional, and discussed how it can apply to our day.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I picked another\u00a0eight\u00a0people interested in construction and drove them to the jobsite in\u00a0Barnardsville. We arrived, I went over safety procedures with nail guns and saws, and we got to work. The team worked together like\u00a0they\u2019d\u00a0been acquainted with each other for years, and it took me by surprise.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">On our second day, the team had already put up all the walls and sheeted\u00a0them\u00a0with\u00a0plywood.\u00a0We\u00a0were also able to hang the center beam so we could put the roof on the next day. Hanging the roof rafters and putting plywood on\u00a0the roof, all while Anna prepared lunch for us, was an amazing experience. After\u00a0work, we had\u00a0a testimony night hosted by the church that allowed us to use their kitchen.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The fourth day was the\u00a0last\u00a0we were able to work for Anna. I had already picked\u00a0out\u00a0my\u00a0team from\u00a0yesterday to complete the job. They worked throughout the day, getting the roof on, installing the door, and finishing all the siding. They made the unanimous decision to work through the sunset and into the dark to complete the job.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">We drove back\u00a0and\u00a0could\u00a0finally\u00a0relax. We tended\u00a0to\u00a0sunburns\u00a0and minor injuries, then headed back after a job well done. The whole team was waiting for us to return with hot meals and to hear our testimonies of the week.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0We then held\u00a0\u201cI See Christ\u00a0in You,\u201d a time where members can come up to\u00a0you\u00a0and tell you how they saw Christ in\u00a0you\u00a0this week, a time of encouragement mirroring Romans 12:10. God showed me what He can do through so many different people, both\u00a0the impact a leader can have on a team\u00a0and\u00a0the willingness of so many people to serve. After we had our coffee, we headed back to pack and get back on the road to conclude our spring break trip.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559731&quot;:720}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0I learned so much on this trip about myself as a leader,\u00a0others, and the impact\u00a0community can have on someone. If I had to encourage someone to go on a\u00a0missions\u00a0trip,\u00a0my one\u00a0piece of advice would be to go and go willingly.
