A group of six women \u2014\u00a0<\/span>Cedarville students<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Centennial Library staff<\/span><\/a>, and\u00a0<\/span>University Baptist Church<\/span><\/a>\u00a0members \u2014 planned a two-week\u00a0missions\u00a0trip to Windhoek, Namibia, over summer break.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the months leading up to our departure, we met\u00a0frequently\u00a0to plan, pray, and encourage each other. This was a sweet time for us to bond and grow as a team of sisters in Christ. As the time drew near for us to\u00a0depart, we could not\u00a0contain\u00a0our excitement of spreading the\u00a0Gospel and serving the local church.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A Remarkable Project<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Upon our arrival, we met with\u00a0local\u00a0missionaries Buddy and Julia to discuss\u00a0our\u00a0plan for the next two weeks. Our main goal was to complete a church library by categorizing, labeling, and shelving\u00a0books and\u00a0resources that would be used by the local church members.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The missionary family had been praying over this library for more than three years.\u00a0They hoped to provide resources that would strengthen their congregation\u2019s faith.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This task was large, but through the Lord\u2019s strength, it\u00a0was made possible! We spent most\u00a0of our\u00a0mornings and afternoons\u00a0in Namibia\u00a0completing these tasks, chatting away the hours and listening to worship music.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After many days\u00a0of\u00a0preparation, we completed this project of 769 books and held a grand opening! What a joy it was to see members of the church browse through the\u00a0new resources, the whole room full of excitement, curiosity, and tears of joy!\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the end, we had sections for missionary biographies, apologetics, Christian living, general theology, and commentaries that would further the\u00a0congregation\u2019s\u00a0knowledge on how to faithfully serve the Lord and love His people well.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This library would not just\u00a0impact\u00a0the church members but also be used by a program to train and equip local men to pursue pastoral ministry.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Loving the Local Church<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

God worked throughout these weeks in many beautiful ways.\u00a0Another\u00a0way our team served was by offering\u00a0two days of literacy camps for children in the area. We planned games, songs, crafts, and story times for the children to\u00a0participate\u00a0in.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After these activities, we separated into groups by grade levels to provide practice for phonics and literacy skills. This\u00a0proved\u00a0to be beneficial for\u00a0the\u00a0students, who\u00a0grew more confident in reading comprehension and experienced how fun reading can be! The room was\u00a0full of\u00a0the sweetest\u00a0smiling\u00a0faces that I treasure knowing!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A key aspect of this trip was serving alongside the local church. Our team had the pleasure of attending a youth meeting within\u00a0our\u00a0first few days\u00a0in\u00a0the country. We led games and bracelet-making for the students and\u00a0participated\u00a0in Bible-themed trivia.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We were also blessed to attend the women\u2019s Bible study and cookout, where we led card-making and were encouraged by the hospitality and friendship of these dear sisters in Christ.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The church was hosting their yearly missions conference, one that challenged the congregation to live out the\u00a0Gospel in their everyday lives. This was a wonderful time of learning from the Bible,\u00a0fellowshipping\u00a0with other believers, and sharing the\u00a0Gospel with the surrounding neighborhoods.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To Serve and Be Served<\/span><\/b><\/h3>\n

Something that this trip challenged me in was my view on\u00a0<\/span>global missions<\/span><\/a>. So often,\u00a0we\u00a0assume\u00a0missions\u00a0trips\u00a0have\u00a0the sole purpose of proclaiming the\u00a0Gospel to those who have never heard\u00a0it. This is an integral aspect of\u00a0missions\u00a0trips, but there is much more to consider.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Through this trip, I learned the importance of encouraging and being encouraged by other believers.\u00a0The congregation was hospitable, joyful, and\u00a0servant-hearted. The believers I met had such passion for loving others in a radical way.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My view of how my team would serve these people was transformed by the beautiful ways they served us. There is such importance in coming alongside brothers and sisters in the faith and strengthening them in the work already being done.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

My team was only able to serve in Namibia for two weeks, but these image-bearers of Christ continue\u00a0sharing\u00a0the Gospel\u00a0with\u00a0their neighbors, coworkers, and\u00a0anyone else\u00a0the Lord places in their path. The importance of sharing each other\u2019s burdens, whether with my local church or believers across the world, is something I will continue to prioritize.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If my time in Namibia could be summarized in one word, I would choose \u201cjoy\u201d! The joy of the Lord was\u00a0evident\u00a0in\u00a0so\u00a0many interactions throughout my time there. Whether it be in endless hugs and giggles from the children or spontaneous songs of praise by the women, my heart was filled with unexplainable joy.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I will forever be grateful for the opportunity to serve and\u00a0be served by\u00a0these beautiful new friends. All glory be to God for the opportunity, ability, and work that we were able to complete. What a joy it was to be\u00a0witnesses\u00a0of his faithfulness and love in this wonderful country.<\/span><\/p>\n
