Many high school students struggle with anxiety over choosing a college. When I was a junior in high school, college visits completely overwhelmed me.\u00a0I\u00a0wasn’t\u00a0sure\u00a0what to do or how to act.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

But\u00a0despite my stress,\u00a0my visit to Cedarville played a major part in my decision to attend this university.\u00a0What I did\u00a0at\u00a0Cedarville that day made\u00a0a big difference.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There\u00a0are several\u00a0things you should\u00a0include in\u00a0your\u00a0own\u00a0visit to campus\u00a0to\u00a0get the best picture of what your life as a Cedarville student would look like!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Interact\u00a0With Current Students<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

First, spending time with current students is\u00a0a great way\u00a0to get a preview of campus life. If\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0anything like me, the thought of talking to a bunch of people you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0know might\u00a0be\u00a0intimidating.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

That\u2019s\u00a0okay! Even if you\u00a0don\u2019t\u00a0feel\u00a0up to\u00a0talking to\u00a0a single\u00a0stranger,\u00a0stay engaged\u00a0when\u00a0you listen\u00a0to students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

You will meet many students\u00a0who\u00a0lead\u00a0tours, work in food service, and\u00a0sit\u00a0next to you in\u00a0chapel. Most\u00a0of them will be more than willing to talk to you!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Pay attention\u00a0to what they have to say\u00a0about Cedarville and college life,\u00a0because you never know if\u00a0they\u2019ll\u00a0mention something\u00a0you\u00a0wouldn\u2019t\u00a0have learned about any other way.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Even\u00a0right now,\u00a0you\u2019re\u00a0reading the words of current students\u00a0on the Student Life Blog as you explore what choosing Cedarville might look like.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A genuine student perspective is one of the best ways to know if Cedarville is right for you!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Explore\u00a0Buildings That Interest You<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Another opportunity to\u00a0<\/span>maximize your\u00a0Cedarville campus visit<\/span><\/a>\u00a0is by visiting locations around campus that interest you. Yes, you will\u00a0have the opportunity to\u00a0<\/span>go\u00a0on a campus tour<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and visit multiple buildings, but you will\u00a0also\u00a0likely have\u00a0some extra time to explore.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Be intentional with this time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

If\u00a0you’re\u00a0<\/span>interested in\u00a0the medical field<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0explore\u00a0the Health\u00a0Sciences\u00a0Center.\u00a0If you\u00a0want to\u00a0<\/span>major in business or marketing<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0take a look\u00a0around\u00a0the Scharnberg Business and Communication\u00a0Center.\u00a0Aside from general education classes, most of your time\u00a0as a student\u00a0will be spent in these department-specific buildings.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Outside of academic buildings, make sure you visit where you envision yourself spending time outside of class. The Stevens Student Center\u00a0is a must-see, but there are other\u00a0options,\u00a0too. For example, lots of visitors enjoy seeing the Callan Athletic Center, where the\u00a0gym is\u00a0located. Personally,\u00a0being\u00a0the bookworm that I am, I\u00a0used\u00a0my extra time to visit the Centennial Library.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Attend Chapel<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Something that I think every visit day to Cedarville should include is\u00a0chapel.\u00a0<\/span>Chapel<\/span><\/a>\u00a0has been called\u00a0the “heartbeat of\u00a0campus,\u201d and it\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>one of students\u2019 favorite Cedarville experiences<\/span><\/a>. Cedarville strives to center everything it does around Christ, and chapel\u00a0serves as a daily\u00a0reminder of that\u00a0priority.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The wonder of so many\u00a0people in one place\u00a0worshiping God\u00a0is so tangible in\u00a0the Cedarville chapel hour. Visiting chapel\u00a0showed\u00a0me\u00a0how serious Cedarville is about building students’ relationships with\u00a0the Lord\u00a0and with each other as brothers and sisters\u00a0in Christ.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This may seem like an obvious\u00a0item to include in this list, but my visit to chapel truly\u00a0became\u00a0a deciding factor in my choice\u00a0to attend Cedarville.\u00a0I think it might play a big part in your decision\u00a0too.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Visit a Class\u00a0and Talk to a Professor<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

The final thing that I would encourage you to do on your campus visit is to\u00a0attend\u00a0a class\u00a0in\u00a0the department that you are interested in. As a\u00a0potential\u00a0<\/span>professional\u00a0writing and\u00a0information\u00a0design<\/span><\/a>\u00a0(aka PWID)\u00a0student,\u00a0I chose to visit the\u00a0Professional\u00a0Editing class taught by\u00a0<\/span>Dr. Nick Carrington<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

As I sat\u00a0in on\u00a0the class, I\u00a0found\u00a0that I could\u00a0see myself pursuing\u00a0this specific major. The material aligned with what I wanted to learn, and the students in the class were friendly and welcoming.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After the class,\u00a0I\u00a0talked to Dr. Carrington, who would eventually become one of my primary\u00a0professors\u00a0and\u00a0my academic advisor. He explained what the\u00a0professional\u00a0writing major was and how I could combine it with minors I was interested in.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The kindness and intentionality he showed me that day allowed me to see how\u00a0much\u00a0professors at Cedarville cared about their students.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0Okay\u00a0To\u00a0be Nervous!<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h2>\n

Despite all the “right”\u00a0choices I made\u00a0during my time on Cedarville’s campus, I was still unsure of\u00a0many things.\u00a0That’s\u00a0perfectly normal!\u00a0In fact,\u00a0I\u00a0didn’t\u00a0even recognize some of these factors\u00a0until a long time after my campus visit.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There will be feelings of nervousness and anxiety. However,\u00a0the Lord is sovereign in everything, and He has good plans\u00a0for your life!\u00a0Push through your\u00a0worries, make\u00a0your visit to\u00a0Cedarville\u00a0a wonderful time to remember, and\u00a0know\u00a0that\u00a0His\u00a0steadfast love never ceases.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"College visits can often be stressful, but they are still a valuable experience!
