For most students, the end goal of college is to find a job.
Maybe you have a job right now and are considering having a job when you get to Cedarville. I wrote a previous blog about different campus jobs that are available to you if you want to check it out. But I wanted to take an opportunity to talk about an amazing resource at Cedarville when it comes to finding a job. Whether this is full-time, part-time, or an internship, this office has your back.
And that office would be Career Services.
Career Services is the office that you end your campus tours at because this is the office that helps set you on a path of success! The tour guides have been trained to explain that this office is a tool for you starting your freshman year and for the rest of your life. They want what is best for you and are always willing to help. My experience with Career Services has been wonderful.
My freshman year, I went to Career Services to update my resume. I sat down one-on-one with someone that walked through my resume and really helped me develop it in order to get my first campus job. My sophomore year I wanted to apply to a very competitive internship, so I reached out for help on my cover letter and resume. I had one-on-one help again in order to present myself in the best way possible.
I have learned tips and tricks of how to update my LinkedIn profile, which is a professional social media site to network with other professionals. I have also learned how to navigate helpful job board sites such as Handshake. This is a site that allows Cedarville University to post jobs that students can navigate to find something that matches what they are looking for. I lastly have attended a job fair where I was able to practice my interviewing skills and meet potential employers that I was very interested in.
Most recently, due to COVID-19 I lost all my campus jobs. I took on more financial responsibility this year that did not go away because of the shut down. I found myself without a job and in need of income. I heard of a temporary marketing position through an email that Career Services sent out. I quickly responded and received the job. I would have never even known about the opportunity without Career Services!
I am now in search of a summer job, and I have used Handshake to look for summer jobs. I have applied to several and have worked with career services to improve my resume. I received an interview for one of the summer jobs I applied for!
I am so thankful for this office and the work that they do to make sure Cedarville students feel prepared and ready to take on the job force. I want to encourage you to reach out to this office for help during your time as a student to set you on a path toward career success! In 2019, the job placement rate at Cedarville was 98.5%. This means that 98.5% of graduates were employed or in grad school six months after graduation! That is a high number, and I know it is in part because of this office!
Get excited to be a part of Cedarville! And know that you have an office that is looking out for you and wants to help you find a job! I can’t wait for you to get to experience it soon!
