Here at Cedarville, there is an overwhelming number of amazing dorms to pick from. Amongst the female dorms is Johnson Hall. Johnson is a hall-style dorm located on the northwest edge of campus, housing around 130 girls. Johnson Hall is a wonderful option for female students to live in, offering a sweet and intentional community of girls, a lively brother dorm, a homey and relaxing getaway from the hustle of campus life, and a prime location for many fun activities on campus!
A Sweet Sis!
Johnson consists of primarily freshman and sophomore girls with some upperclassmen mixed in. The community is generally lively and active, yet the atmosphere is still very laid-back. Resident Assistants, or RAs, seek to provide weekly opportunities for girls to get involved with their hall. Most RAs will offer sis dinners and sis Bible studies as opportunities to spend time together and study God’s Word on a weekly basis. Common extra events include movie nights, visiting apple orchards in the fall, going ice skating in the winter, craft nights, and game nights.
There are also fun events for all of Johnson and their sister dorm, Wood Hall, to engage in together — these are great opportunities to get to know girls outside of your own hall! These events include WoJo Week, a competition between each hall involving fun, daily challenges; Bingo and Chili Night, where girls gather to play bingo for fun prizes while eating chili made by sweet women from the community; and a Galentine’s brunch, where girls gather to eat pancakes and play games together.
Walking through the halls of Johnson any given day, you are guaranteed to hear laughter and intentional conversations being had. Every morning the bathroom is bustling with girls getting ready and catching up on life with each other as they brush their teeth. It is super easy to get to know the girls living in your hall, especially if you’re intentional about it! Prop your door open while you work on homework, say hi when you see your hallmates in the bathroom or when walking around on campus, show up to hall Bible study, and be purposeful in trying to get to know them.
Bro-Sis Bonds!
Each hall in Johnson is paired with a brother hall in St. Clair Hall, the men’s dorm connected to Johnson by a co-ed lounge. The two dorms meet about once a month for fun events like game nights, corn maze outings, and worship nights. Almost every bro-sis will also meet weekly for brunch on Saturday mornings or spontaneous meals together throughout the week. The lounge is accessible to both male and female residents from 10 a.m. to fifteen minutes before curfew. It’s a great place to study, play games, watch movies, and just hang out with friends!
A Home Away From Home!
As much fun as it is to be a college student living on campus with a lot of other students, sometimes it is nice to get a break from the crowd. Johnson is a great place to come back to at the end of the day and get away from the hustle and bustle of central campus. The tranquil and calming atmosphere of Johnson makes for a great environment to decompress after a long day of classes, meetings, work, and whatever else keeps you busy throughout the day. When you walk in the door of Johnson, you’ll be greeted by an automatic feeling of home!
Location, Location, Location!
While some would argue that Johnson’s distance from most other campus buildings is an inconvenience, the location provides a relaxing escape while still being only a couple minutes’ walk from the center of campus. Johnson is also right next to the outdoor sand volleyball courts, basketball courts, and the Callan Athletic Center. A lot of Johnson girls enjoy playing beach volleyball when the weather is nice or climbing the rock wall. Johnson’s prime location makes these activities the perfect study break and a great way to hang out with friends!
With so many amazing places to live on campus, it can be easy to overlook some of the lesser-known dorms. However, I would suggest you keep in mind Johnson Hall! If you are looking for a fun and active place to make a lot of new friends but still want some peace and quiet, then Johnson may be the place for you!
