Dear friends and family of the School of Nursing,

As an educational institution committed to preparing graduate nursing students for His purpose, we are so proud of the many ways our current M.S.N. students and alumni are serving with competence and compassion during this unprecedented time.

You, as a member of the most trusted profession, are the vanguard during this pandemic. You have shown determination, perseverance, resilience, and love in the face of adversity. You, as a dearly loved child of God, are called to live a life of love (Eph. 5:1-3) and to “clothe yourself with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience … above all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity … and whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (Col. 3:12-17).

So, with gratitude, thank you to those on the frontline in acute and primary care settings. Thank you to those in ICU settings caring for the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of patients in distress. Thank you to those of you serving the country in uniform as you are deployed to high-acuity areas. Thank you to those caring for family members at home.

Wherever you are and whatever your situation, remember, “The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands” (Ps. 138:8). So press on, lead on, love, and serve, as you trust Him to fulfill His purpose for you.

With much love and prayers,

Dr. Higginbotham
Assistant Dean & Director of Graduate Nursing Programs
