January 27, 2017

Recently the Cedarville University Geology program celebrated its 8th birthday; the CU board of trustees officially approved the program in January of 2009.  Since then we have had 21 BS Geology graduates, 3 BA Geoscience graduates and 4 more Geology graduates set to graduate this spring.  When the program started, we had many unanswered questions like “Would our students be able to get into graduate schools?” Or “How would our students compare with those educated in secular schools?” Or “Would our students be able to get jobs?”  Eight years later, we have the answers to some of those questions!

  • Two of our first graduates received PhD’s last June and another is set to get theirs’s this spring
  • We have five other graduates currently in masters/PhD programs (all at secular schools)
  • We have ten of our graduates employed as geologists doing a wide variety of different kinds of work including oil & gas, groundwater and environmental type jobs.
  • A rigorous 5-week field camp course is required of all our Geology majors. The course is only taught at secular universities by secular professors.  Our students frequently get the top scores in these camps and we have had several students who were nominated for NAGT (National Association of Geology Teachers) awards because of their performance.
  • Our students have produced more than 50 scientific papers, articles and abstracts for the scientific literature, the bulk of which have appeared in conventional publications.
  • Two of our students received the GSA Exxon-Mobile scholarship to attend field camp. These are competitive awards and only 20 per year (nationally) are distributed.  We had a third student who was a runner up for the award.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CU GEOLOGY!!
