From the Family Room to the Press Box

Long before Emily Tuttle filled notebooks with game stories or hustled through postgame interviews, she gathered with her family to watch whatever sports game happened to be on television. They celebrated dramatic finishes, questioned coaching decisions, and relived unforgettable moments long after the final whistle.

Over time, those family traditions did more than create a sports fan; they taught Emily that the games she loved were really about the relationships fostered and the memories created. It was there, in the company of her family, that her passion for sports journalism first took root.

Her dream of becoming a sports journalist gradually became a calling. While many fans simply watched the action unfold, Emily became fascinated by the stories behind the scores. She wanted to tell readers what motivated athletes, how coaches built winning cultures, and why certain moments lingered long after the highlights faded. Sports journalism offered the perfect way to combine her curiosity, love of writing, and appreciation for competition.

Now a senior journalism major at Cedarville University, Emily shared on the Cedarville Stories podcast how she approaches every opportunity with the determination of an athlete chasing down a loose ball.

Last winter, she earned a spot in the NCAA Final Four Full Court Press program, covering one of college basketball’s biggest events while learning from professionals in the field. And an internship with the Rockford Rivets has given her firsthand experience in the daily rhythm of sports communications, from game-day preparation to connecting with fans.

Emily knows there is no substitute for preparation. Every assignment sharpens her reporting. Every interview builds confidence. Every deadline helps prepare her for the next opportunity.

Her career may one day take her to major sporting events and crowded press boxes, but the foundation will remain unchanged. Today, every story Emily writes traces back to that living room, where faith anchored her life, family nurtured her heart, and a shared love of sports first sparked the dream she is now pursuing.

Every life has a story worth telling. Cedarville Stories, an official podcast of Cedarville University, features conversations with alumni, students, faculty, and friends whose lives reflect God’s faithfulness and calling.
