This week, 16 of our students are in Vancouver, British Columbia (western Canada) at the annual Geological Society of America conference.  The conference is attended by 6,000 geologists from all over the world.  We came out two days early so we could take a few field trips to see some of the region’s volcanoes, glacial features, rivers, canyons, landslides and shoreline features.  The scenery is incredible and the geology is very diverse!  Calvin is one of our junior students who will be making a presentation on some sand injectites that he is studying in Pittsburgh.  Three of CU’s first geology graduates are also making presentations on things like the Coconino Sandstone, dinosaur taphonomy and stromatolites.  All of the presentations involve research that they are doing for their PhD’s.  I am so proud of our students!  They have done some excellent research and put together some very professional posters for display at the meetings.
