I always hesitate when it comes to introductions. The formal, business side of me wants to introduce myself as Kimberly, while the 40-year-old mom side prefers Kim (think about it: one in every 10 students has a mom named Kim). However, as a 22-year-old marketing major heading into senior year of college, I think I will continue to go by the youthful and bubbly name Kimmy and slowly mature to the fancier versions.
So hey, y’all, I’m Kimmy!
This year I have had the privilege of being Co-Director of Getting Started Weekend (GSW) with my good friend Gwendolyn (pictured below … for clarification, I am the giggling blonde), and what an adventure that has been! From planning the different events for the weekend to talking with future Yellow Jackets, we have LOVED every part of this process.
I remember my own GSW like it was yesterday. Hours of packing culminated into one minivan, which somehow contained all of the belongings necessary for my survival without my parents. Hours of driving sent my heart into twists and turns as nerves and fear flit around. But the second I arrived on campus, I felt nothing but excitement as countless college kids in bright blue shirts jumped up and down yelling “Welcome Home!”
Cedarville University, a place that has a huge piece of my heart. It is my home away from home, my family away from family.
So yes, I love this place and these people. I love grabbing a group of friends and playing sand volleyball outside Johnson Hall. I love going on runs around the lake and hammocking in shady trees around campus. I LOVE grabbing coffee (iced honey latte, to be specific) from Rinnova with girls from my unit and talking for hours about life. I love planning campus events like ALT Nights, Campus Christmas, and Getting Started Weekend with Campus Experience. I love chasing Cedarville sunsets and standing in awe of how God paints each sky. I love my professors and their passion for business and the Gospel of Christ.
I hope this post has given you a glimpse of my excitement that I wish to share with incoming Yellow Jackets for their soon-to-be home, settling nerves and fears with a dose of excitement and trust in God’s plan. Feel free to reach out and talk if you have any questions about Getting Started or just college life in general!
With joy,
Kimmy Powell
