“One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well” (Virginia Woolf).
Most of the time when you hear the term “cafeteria food,” it doesn’t have a great connotation. It may even conjure up images of the stinky cafeteria in your high school basement. At Cedarville, however, this is not the case. The options for dining have a pretty wide range. You’re in for some yummy food. Let me share with you more about our specific dining hall plan!
For students living on campus, there are two meal plan groups you can choose from. The awesome new update Cedarville has made in all of its meal plan options is that each student receives $125 worth of “flex dollars.” Flex dollars can be used to purchase add-ons to your meal. For example, at Chick-fil-A, you can use an exchange meal for anything up to $7.50. If you want to add anything above $7.50 (like a milkshake), you can use your flex dollars to buy that.
Here’s a cheat sheet of all the food you can enjoy at Cedarville University:
The Dining Hall (aka Chuck’s)
There are nine different genres of food inside Chuck’s:
-
- Habanero – This is my personal favorite. It’s basically Chipotle.
- Home Cooking – What’s great about this station is that it changes every night. It could be mac-n-cheese or fish or gGeek pitas!
- Breakfast All Day – Maybe you’re not a morning person. If you really want a blueberry bagel but don’t want to get up at the crack of dawn to eat one, this station is for you.
- Pizza and Pasta – I had a friend freshman year who ate pizza every day. Every. Day.
- Gluten Free Zone – Here for the gluten free and gluten conscious students!
- SubZone – It’s basically Subway.
- Power Bar – Meat. Potatoes. Power.
- Deluxe Salad and Soup Bar – Their potato soup is my favorite.
- Pastry Table – A variety of desserts, including cake, pie, cookies, and ice cream!
Stinger’s
While technically a “snack shop,” Stinger’s has a lot to offer. This includes exchange meals that pair a sandwich with a side. The atmosphere is also very relaxed and fun, so it’s a great place to study with friends!
Grab+Go
There are three Grab+Go stations on campus. If you don’t have time to sit down for lunch, but need food in between classes, Grab+Go is a great option for you! They have a wide variety of sandwiches and salads. (The salads are really good. I eat them almost every day.)
This is Cedarville’s newest, most exciting place on campus. Who doesn’t love a good spicy chicken sandwich smothered in Chick-fil-A sauce with fries, a drink, and a chocolate milkshake?! I made it my goal to try each milkshake (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, and cookies-n-cream) when I got to campus. It didn’t take me long to reach that goal, and I think I’ll reach it a few more times before the semester is over.
Tossed
Not feeling like chicken? Located right next to Chick-fil-A is Tossed, where you can get personalized salads or wraps. The combinations are endless.
While it isn’t a place to eat, Rinnova deserves a shout out as being the best spot to grab a latte or smoothie after class. The baristas are pretty cool, and they do an awesome job making literally any coffee drink you want. Want to skip the line? Download the Rinnova app and they’ll have your order ready when you arrive!
Tips and Tricks
There are two new features you need to know about.
- The dining hall now offers take-out boxes for every meal. This means that you can grab food and take it outside to sit near the lake or back to your room to chill with your friends.
- Crowd Checker is a new web app to help you know when lines are super long. I’ve used this multiple times to know what time is best to head to Chick-fil-A.
Like Virginia Woolfe stated, life is a lot harder if you don’t eat well. Thankfully Cedarville has a lot of options, so eating well shouldn’t be a problem.
