First, I’d like to encourage everyone to look for a college even if you don’t know exactly what major you would like to choose. Although that may seem incredibly scary, most students are undecided and choose after taking several general education classes that help reveal what they might be interested in.

For me, I was stuck on the idea of what occupation I wanted to pursue. I didn’t want to choose a major that wouldn’t be beneficial in the long run. With this in mind, I decided that I was going to attend a community college until I knew exactly what I wanted. The only problem with my plan was that my mother wasn’t too keen on sending me to a community college. Since she wanted me to go to a college founded in Christian beliefs, we went to a college expo that my church was hosting.

We walked around and talked with several other universities, but none of them stood out to me. I was severely bored and just wanted to leave because I figured that I was never going to learn what I wanted to do at such an event. And then there it was, at the end of the huge lines of colleges: Cedarville University.

Decisions, Decisions

The first thing I noticed about Cedarville University was that it was incredibly beautiful. I hadn’t talked to any of the representatives yet, but the pamphlets and pictures caught my eye quickly. It was different than the other schools I saw at the expo. The University seemed to call my name.

When it was finally my turn to talk to the representative of the school, everything my mother and I had worked on regarding how to say I was undecided dissipated. I was, to my surprise, going to be an editor majoring in English.

There were, of course, other colleges that I needed to look at before I decided if Cedarville University was the correct school for me. Only one other school seemed to compete with the English program at Cedarville, and I was always going back and forth between the two to figure out which was going to supply me with the education that I needed. After going over financials, residence life, and most importantly, educational quality, I picked Cedarville University as the school that I was going to attend.

How I Knew Cedarville University Was “The One”

Honestly, I’m unsure if everyone will feel the same sense of resolution in finding the correct school as I did. Every experience is different. My advice is to just keep on moving forward! If you feel like you’ve found the college that’s going to suit your needs the best, then follow that path.

Cedarville University is amazing. And no, I’m not just saying that because that’s where I decided to go. It was the university that best matched my needs, especially in the English program.

Everyone’s going to wonder if they found their forever school. I think that you know you found the right school when it almost feels like home. You’re obviously going to miss your loved ones, but arriving back on campus still feels like a welcome home each time! Cedarville University feels that way to me.

Was It Meant To Be?

I think that I was meant to go to Cedarville. Although it definitely presents its challenges, I like to be able to see how I’m getting past each obstacle. There are days when I long to graduate and other days when I thoroughly appreciate what being in college is teaching me. That’s going to be an experience that everyone has. But I believe that finding Cedarville University was a true gift from God, and I’m wishing you the same experience in choosing a college for yourself. Remember that you don’t need to find the “perfect” school for the Lord to use your time in college to shape you. He is faithful to use your choice for His glory, so most of all, just remember to trust Him as you make your decision!
