Hi! My name is MiaRose Hess, and I am a sophomore business management student! I’m from Spencer, Indiana. I am so excited to bring you along for a typical Wednesday in my life. Hope you’re ready for the ride … let’s go!

Starting My Day Right

I typically get up around 7:15-ish to give myself time to get ready. Sometimes I listen to music, but lately I’ve been listening to audiobooks. I will also check The Daily Buzz, which is a campus newsletter sent out every weekday telling students about what is happening around campus. On Wednesdays, I don’t have class until 9 a.m., so I typically spend some time reading the Bible or meeting my friend Karis for coffee (or smoothies in my case!) at Rinnova, our campus coffee shop.

At 9 a.m., I head to my managerial accounting class with Professor Garrison. Then, after class gets out, I head to chapel! This has been the most transformational part of my Cedarville journey. I enjoy taking a break from the busyness and resting with fellow believers. I have sat in the same spot since freshman year with my friends Chloe and Santija, and the original trio has grown as others have joined us! Chapel typically starts with a worship portion that leads into the message. Currently, my favorite chapels are Dr. White’s MARKed by Jesus series.

Business Classes and Faculty Mentors

I don’t have class during the 11 a.m. hour every day, so I’ll grab lunch with a friend. My favorite on-campus dining option is Chick-Fil-A because of their frosted lemonades, but The Commons (the dining hall) offers a good variety of food.

At 12 pm, I have New Testament with Dr. Couser. Every Cedarville graduate will leave with a minor in Bible includes five Bible classes. After New Testament, I go straight to Intro to Entrepreneurship with Dr. Oberbrunner at 1 p.m.

I cannot express the impact that my faculty members have had on my academic journey and personal life! For instance, my academic advisor (shoutout to Professor Leo!) does a great job encouraging me to do my best. Coming out of high school, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, so I chose business management, thinking it would give me the most opportunities. Almost two years into this degree, Cedarville has given me the hard and soft skills needed to succeed in and outside of the classroom. With the help of Dr. Oberbrunner, I was even able to start my own business, The Bagel Girl. I also used my experiences in an internship over the past summer. Because of the Fall Career Fair, I was able to meet potential employers and ended up getting an internship opportunity for summer 2026.

I don’t have any classes at 2 p.m., so I will either go back to my dorm in McKinney, where my roommate Isa and I live, or work on homework in the Scharnberg Business and Communication Center. My go-to-study spot is the high tables by the large windows that overlook the lake.

My On-Campus Job and Evening Activities

From 3–5 p.m., I work in the Career Services office. During my shift, I met with Will Galkin to discuss our office’s partnership with the Synergy Initiative, a church planting organization on campus. After the meeting, I will work on office tasks or work on my peer résumé reviewer training. Sometimes, I will help peers with mock interviews or setting up their LinkedIn profiles. Lately, my shifts have consisted of preparing for the Spring and Education Career Fair.

After my shift, I go straight to microeconomics tutoring with my tutor, Marcos, for my next class or the quiz. This peer tutoring resource is offered through The Cove, Cedarville’s academic enrichment center. I encourage everyone to check out The Cove before classes start!

After tutoring, I grab dinner at The Commons with my friend Chloe. In the evening, I meet my friends Addie, Avah, and Karis to do homework either in the dorm or the business building computer lab. Depending on the day, I might have meetings, sports games, or Bible study with a friend or discipleship group. I am the secretary of the Cedarville University Investment Club and a member of a few other clubs. Finally, I start winding down for bed around 11:30 p.m., meditating on the Word or praying if I didn’t get to it earlier and hit the hay by midnight.

A Tip for Your Time as a Student

A quick tip to wrap this post up: ALWAYS make time for people and have meaningful conversations. The time you have on campus flies by quickly, so make it count by being intentional.

Thank you for joining me on this day in my life! If you are interested in learning more about what the business major offers, I encourage you to check out Cedarville’s website!
