Hey! I am Gideon Cole, a sophomore criminal justice major at Cedarville! I was born in Guatemala and lived there for about two years, then I was adopted by my amazing family. We live in West Liberty, Ohio, which is only 50 minutes away from Cedarville.
I decided to live in Brock Hall since I figured I best fit the culture there. I spend a lot of my free time lifting and running! I would not consider myself a hybrid athlete yet, although I do have my first marathon coming up.
Now that you know a little bit about me, I would like to take you through what a usual Tuesday looks like for me.
Morning Routine
Tuesdays are the only day that I have a morning class, so I usually wake up with just enough time to shower and get ready.
I am not a huge breakfast guy, mainly because I try to maximize my time to sleep, which limits my options. So, I typically choose caffeine and processed protein.
I really enjoy the walk to class in the morning. Now that fall has started, the weather has been perfect!

Morning Class
My first class on Tuesdays is Ethics of Sports Gambling. This is the first semester that Cedarville offered this class, and I was excited for it.
It has been really interesting to learn about how sports books work, how they make/decide the odds, and how we can think about the risks of sports gambling from a biblical worldview. I highly recommend taking this class!

Chapel
After class is dismissed, I make my way to chapel, where one of my friends saves our seats! I have really enjoyed going to chapel every day. It was one of the main reasons I decided to attend Cedarville.
I have definitely grown a lot as a person and in my faith since coming to Cedarville. I honestly think I can attribute a lot of that growth to attending chapel. I also really enjoy having time set aside every day to see all of my friends in one place. On this Tuesday, the message was about denying temptation and seeking to love God.
Lunch and Afternoon Classes
I eat lunch after chapel every day. One of the things I love about college is how you’ll meet someone during Welcome Week, and then a month later, that person might be your best friend who you eat lunch with every day.

After lunch, I have a couple more classes. I start with Criminology at 12:30. This is probably my favorite class of the semester. Since I’m a criminal justice major, all of the major-focused classes are really cool to me.
We have been focusing on why people commit crimes. It has been interesting to see all the different theories people have come up with on why people may be more inclined to commit a crime.
After Criminology, I have Ethics with Dr. Josh Kira, one of my favorite professors! This is another great class that I highly recommend for all students. We have been going over all the different views that secular and Christian philosophers have. Even if it is not on your degree track, you should still really consider taking this class.

Student Org Dinner
After class I normally go to the gym, then get dinner. On Tuesdays, I eat with a student organization that I’m involved in: Alpha Chi, a service org for men that focuses on discipleship and leadership. It also happens to be the oldest and longest lasting student org on campus.
The best thing I did at Cedarville was get involved in this org. I’ve been challenged in many great ways. I have grown a lot in my faith through the friends and intentionality that everyone in this org has. Even if you do not think that Alpha Chi is for you, I still recommend finding ways to get involved and serve at Cedarville in any way you can.

Dorm Life
After dinner, I usually go back to my dorm, Brock (or as we like to call it, the bricks). It’s time I usually spend getting some homework done or just hanging out with my friends. I also make sure I have some quiet time that I can spend with the Lord before I go to bed each night.
I hope you enjoyed hearing about what a day looks like for a criminal justice student at Cedarville University. I know that I have loved my time here, and I’m certain you will too!
