Professional Writing & Information Design

The Professional Writing and Information Design major (also known as PWID) at Cedarville University prepares students for positions as writers, editors, page layout designers, and web designers in a variety of industries. Cedarville University’s distinctly Christian professional writing program will uniquely equip every student to use their vocation to make a difference for Christ wherever God leads them. 

Graduates of the program have jobs varying from content strategists, marketing specialists, copy writers, editors and instructional designers.

Yes! Many of our students work in the Writing Center, helping other students write essays for their classes.

 

Another popular job for PWID students is working for Cedarville’s public relations department, writing press releases that will be published on Cedarville’s website, posted on their social media, and distributed to local news sources.

 

Cedarville’s student newspaper, Cedars, is another common on-campus job for PWID students.

 

The most common minors that students pair with the Professional Writing (PWID) major include Graphic Design, Web Design, Creative Writing, and Women’s Ministry.

Yes! It is required for all Professional Writing (PWID) students to complete an internship before graduation. This ensures that each student gets the opportunity to use the skills he/she has learned in class in a professional and practical environment. It also helps students understand what he/she might want to do after college.

 

Students in the Professional Writing (PWID) program have completed their internships with Compassion International, IBM, Honda, Wiley Publishing, Back2Back Ministries, and many other companies.
Every student of the PWID program is a member of the Society of Professional Writers (SPW), the official student organization for the major. The elected officers meet with the org advisors on a regular basis to schedule events for those in the PWID major, including field trips, fellowship-building activities, weekly dinners, and professional development events. With regular gatherings, SPW helps to foster the friendships and unity within the major.

 

Many PWID student also take part in the Inklings, Cedarville’s creative writing student organization.
