May 2, 2020

Today was supposed to be commencement, a day to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2020 class. Typically, it is the time that we as faculty get to tell our graduating seniors how proud we are of them, how they enriched our lives more than they know. Our culture often talks about college as a transforming experience, and it is. We watch students grow from bewildered teenagers to confident men and women. But the transformation is not one sided: as faculty, our students change us for the better. We are all a work in progress, but God promises He will complete the work He began in us (Philippians 1:6). Often times, He uses the people in our lives to further those purposes.

Class of 2020, you have made us better scholars, mentors, and people. We are so honored to have had you in our classes, and we pray that God has blessed you in the Professional Writing program. We would like to show our appreciation and exhort you one last time, so we recorded these videos.

The pandemic also caused us to cancel our end of year banquet. At this banquet, we give out awards for our students. We wish we could give them to you all in person, but since we can’t, we still want to recognize all your wonderful accomplishments.
