Password Strength Policy
The new CedarNet password strength policy was implemented yesterday as planned. The next time you either choose to change your CedarNet password or are prompted to change your password, it will need to meet the following requirements:
- 8 characters or more
- contain at least 1 letter and 1 number
- uppercase letters and special characters are optional
- passwords are now case-sensitive
Password Expiration Policy – Update
The password expiration policy will be phased in over the next few weeks. Student passwords do not expire (with just a few exceptions). You will receive a notice that your CedarNet password is about to expire. You will have 10 grace log ins using your old password before you are required to change your CedarNet password to meet the above requirements. Once you change your password, an expiration date will be set according to the following policy:
- Most faculty, staff and department passwords will expire 360 days from last password change
- Information technology, business office and financial aid staff and department passwords will expire 180 days from last password change
- Passwords of students who work for either information technology or financial aid will expire in 180 days from last password change.
