Wireless Network Changes

The following changes are being made to the wireless networks on campus:

  • The cu-secure wireless network will no longer be available as of 6/26/2019.
  • The eduroam wireless network is the preferred network for all personal (not CU-owned) computers.
  • The eduroam wireless network requires that you use your FULL Cedarville email (including @cedarville.edu) as your username. cu-secure did not have this requirement.  When set up correctly, devices connected to eduroam will automatically connect to WiFi when on other university campuses that support eduroam.
Action Items:

  • Check your smartphones, tablets and personal laptops to make sure they are connected to the eduroam wireless network.
  • Make sure you enter your full @cedarville.edu email address as the username when connecting to eduroam.

Network Maintenance June 29 – July 4

  • Saturday, June 29 at 8 a.m.: The server Fir, which houses the H: drives for about half the faculty and staff, will be rebooted in order to install some updates.  It will be down for about 10 minutes.  You can tell if your H: drive is on Fir by clicking on the Windows Explorer icon (it’s the folder icon at the bottom of your screen).  Look at the icons that represent your drive letters.  If the icon for your H: drive has the word Fir in it, this will affect you.  Although your computer should reconnect automatically, it’s recommended that you close any open documents before 8:00 a.m.
  • Saturday, June 29 at 9 p.m.: The student H: drive server, Oak, will be down for about 2 hours while the server operating system is being upgraded.  Files on that server will be inaccessible during this period.
  • Sunday, June 30 at 9 p.m.: The student H: drive server, Peach, will be down for about 2 hours while the server operating system is being upgraded.  Files on that server will be inaccessible during this period.
  • Monday, July 1 at 9 p.m.: The student H: drive server, Pine (are you seeing a naming pattern here?), will be down for about 2 hours while the server operating system is being upgraded.  Files on that server will be inaccessible during this period.
There is one other infrastructure component that is being upgraded on July 4.  Although we do not anticipate any issues, there is always the possibility when technology is involved.  If you return to work on Friday the 5, and you experience any network issues, please call our Help Desk at 937-766-7905 and they’ll be happy to assist you.
